Chair and Director of EGCP


David R. Green is retired Professor of Geography at the University of Aberdeen in the Department of Geography, where he taught Coastal Management, Hydrography, Remote Sensing, Cartography, GIS and UAV Remote Sensing.  He was the Director of the MSc in GIS Degree Programme, Director of the UAV/UAS Centre for Environmental Modelling and Mapping, and the Aberdeen Institute for Coastal Science and Management (AICSM). He is the past-Chairman of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI); member of AGI Scotland (AGIS); past-Editor in Chief of The Cartographic Journal; past-President of the EUCC–The Coastal and Marine Union in Leiden, The Netherlands; past-Vice-Chair of the European Centre for Nature Conservation (ECNC) Scientific Committee (ECNC); past Vice-Chair of the IGU Commission on Coastal Systems; a Member of the Advisory Committee - Center for Coastal and Marine Studies (CCMS) (Bulgaria); Chair of the International CoastGIS Conference Series; past-Chair of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) Aberdeen Local Group; and is currently Chair and Director of EGCP Ltd., and Chair of the IGU Commission on Coastal Systems.


He is also Editor in Chief of the Journal of Coastal Conservation, Planning and Management (Springer). 


David is a specialist in the environmental applications of geospatial technologies with interests in geographical information systems, remote sensing (terrestrial and bathymetric), cartography/digital mapping, Internet and mobile GIS, coastal and marine resource management, hydrography, marine spatial planning (MSP), UAV/drone technology, and Precision Viticulture and has published a number of books on Coastal Zone Management; Geographical Information Systems (GIS); Remote Sensing; and UAV Applications. He is also one of the joint-supervisors of several coastal PhDs at the University of Aberdeen/Queens University Belfast (QUARTILES), and a joint-supervisor of a SUSTAIN PhD studentship on Precision Viticulture (University of Aberdeen/Lincoln University).


He is a keen sailor, enjoys travelling, cars, art, photography, and the company of his two Siamese cats Mia and Mir, and currently manages and edits the EGCP website and the E-Newsletter.
